USA: Shell opens its fourth hydrogen station in San Francisco Bay
The Berkeley hydrogen station will have larger capacity and more fueling positions to meet the needs of the growing fuel cell car market in the Bay.
Shell continues expanding its hydrogen refuelling network in California with the opening of its latest location in Berkeley, the company’s fourth hydrogen station in the Bay Area, announced the California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP).
Open 24 hours a day, Berkeley hydrogen station has a 560 kilograms capacity and features two fuelling nozzles at H70 pressure. Two cars will be able to fuel simultaneously.
“Like the other Shell stations, the Berkeley hydrogen station will have larger capacity and more fueling positions to meet the needs of the growing fuel cell passenger car market in the Bay Area,” says CaFCP’s press release.
All Shell San Francisco hydrogen stations offer 100% renewable hydrogen from biogas, according to the release.
California requires that at least 33% of hydrogen fuel come from renewable sources. For stations that qualify for the Low Carbon Fuel Standard ZEV infrastructure credit, that amount increases to 40%.
