Virginia Tire to go smoke-free
Virginia Tire & Auto (VTA) will launch its smoke-free initiative to promote healthier workforce and workplace in its 12 northern Virginia locations on November 19, in time for the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout event, reported tirebusiness.com.
Twenty employees are expected to quit smoking that day. Tobacco products, e-cigarettes, smoking, and chewing will be prohibited in all VTA establishments. The company has already ceased selling cigarettes.
“By making Virginia Tire & Auto a smoke-free business, we will have a healthier workforce and provide a healthier environment for our customers,” said VTA president Julie Holmes.
The Fairfax-based full-service automotive maintenance provider also offers a credit of $1,800 per year to employees who enrol in the company’s health plan.
“Virginia Tire & Auto is excited to participate in the Great American Smokeout and support our employees who promise to quit smoking,” said Holmes.
Mary C. Saunders, community manager with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, stressed that smoking “is still the number one preventable cause of cancer in the United States.”
