Walmart Canada to stop accepting Visa payments

Walmart Canada will no longer accept Visa cards because of the payment company’s “unacceptably high” fees.

The retailer stated in a company release that “Walmart Canada pays over $100 million in fees to accept credit cards each and every year. Lowering costs such as these is necessary for us to be able to keep our prices low and continue saving our customers money.”

The decision will be implemented starting July 18, 2016 in a Walmart store in Thunder Bay and later on in other Walmart stores across Canada.

Other forms of payment including cash, Interac debit, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express will continue to be accepted.
