ABO Energy sells German green hydrogen hub to Tyczka Hydrogen
The facility, which includes hydrogen production, refueling and trailer filling infrastructure, has been supplying certified green hydrogen in Germany since 2025.
ABO Energy has completed the sale of a green hydrogen hub in Hünfeld, Germany, to Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH, transferring ownership of a facility that combines hydrogen production, vehicle refueling and trailer filling infrastructure.
Located in the state of Hesse, the project has been producing RNFBO-certified green hydrogen since August 2025 for fuel cell buses and trucks. RNFBO, or Renewable Fuel of Non-Biological Origin, refers to renewable fuels designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The facility includes a 5-megawatt electrolyser, a hydrogen refueling station and a trailer filling station. According to ABO Energy, the electrolyser can produce up to 450 tonnes of hydrogen annually, supplying both the refueling and filling infrastructure. The plant is powered by electricity generated from wind and solar energy sources.
“We have successfully realised this complex project, from the planning stage through to construction and commissioning. We are therefore all the more delighted to have found a strong buyer in Tyczka Hydrogen,” said Dr. Karsten Schlageter, Managing Director at ABO Energy.
The project was inaugurated and commissioned during the summer of 2025 following several years of planning and 13 months of construction. In July 2025, it became one of the first hydrogen facilities in Germany to receive TÜV certification under the CertifHy EU RNFBO Voluntary Scheme for green hydrogen.
The hydrogen hub received public support through Germany’s National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, with total funding of €12 million provided by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport. Additional support came through the German Recovery and Resilience Plan under the European Union’s NextGenerationEU program.
