Toyota joins Volvo Group and Daimler Truck in hydrogen venture
Cellcentric will pursue technological lead, industrial scale and competitiveness in heavy-duty fuel cell technology.
Toyota Motor Corporation, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck have signed an agreement for Toyota to become an equal partner and shareholder in cellcentric, the heavy-duty fuel cell systems developer. Under the deal, each of the three companies will hold an equal one-third stake in the business.
The agreement builds on a non-binding accord reached at the end of March 2026 and follows customary next steps toward finalizing the partnership.
Once finalized, the three companies plan to collaborate on equal terms to strengthen cellcentric's technological lead, industrial scale and competitiveness in heavy-duty fuel cell technology. The partners also intend to work with industry associations and stakeholders across the hydrogen value chain to support the wider development of hydrogen supply and infrastructure.
cellcentric will continue operating as an independent, autonomous company, serving customers across heavy-duty on-road and off-road transport, coaches, stationary power generation, rail and heavy off-highway equipment. Toyota, Volvo Group and Daimler Truck will continue to compete independently in all other areas of their respective businesses.
