Argentina: Shell to install first EV chargers in service station network
Raízen, the Argentinian subsidiary of the company, is working on an e-mobility strategy to deploy a number of chargers across its stations.
Shell is working on its e-mobility strategy for the Latin-American region and plans to deploy its first EV chargers in Argentina. The company is currently assessing the initiative through a partnership with Audi and Volkswagen and has recently acquired a number of chargers to install in its Argentinian service stations.
María Laura Scian, B2B Key Accounts Sales Manager of Raízen, the subsidiary of Shell in the country, has confirmed to the local news site surtidores.com.ar that the company is currently working to deploy its first chargers in Argentinian’s stations. According to the recent interview, the representative acknowledged that this strategy will come to fruition through a partnership with Audi and the Volkswagen Group.
As the Online Information System of the Automotive Market in Argentina reported last year, a total of 5871 EV vehicles and hybrids were sold during 2021. This represents a 148% growth from the previous year, where a total of 2,383 vehicles were sold, according to the report cited by the media.
At the start of the year, the oil firm stepped up its e-mobility strategy on a worldwide scale. Since last January, the firm has announced several acquisitions and partnerships in this regard. First it was the ubitricity acquisition, then Shell Oman's opening of a new mobility hub and a partnership with Phihong Technology to expand its EV strategy across several markets. These announcements are part of Shell's plans to amp the deployment of the technology on a worldwide scale.
According to its official website, Shell currently opeartes 80,000 EV charging points. The firm aims to operate over 500,000 of them by 2025 for electric cars at homes, business, Shell retail sites and destinations.
