A sector that in Italy counts more than 22 thousand installations and employs around 24 thousand people. It is that of service stations, which in recent years have undergone a profound structural renewal: focused on multi-service management rather than the sale of products, petrol stations are becoming true 'mobility centres' in which oil, markets, car washes, electric recharge stations and car parks converge. But the challenges for the future are many: from infrastructure development to energy and digital transition.

The novelties of the new edition

In order to represent an evolving sector and offer opportunities for exchange and professional updating, Oil&nonOil, the only Italian and Mediterranean basin event aimed at operators in the fuel distribution chain, returns for its 17th edition at the Verona Exhibition Centre from 16 to 18 November.

A return, after the 2021 edition that had seen the presence of the most quoted companies in the sector and 5 thousand qualified operators, with three important novelties. Starting with the 2022 edition, Veronafiere has assigned organisational and commercial activities to Piemmeti Spa, a Veronafiere Group company specialising in the promotion and organisation of technical business-to-business events, especially in the energy sector. The new control room, therefore, is entrusted to a company with solid experience and specific skills in the sector.

Not only: the next one will be the last annual edition of the event, which, starting in 2023, will have biennial character and will be held in odd-numbered years. Third novelty: an Innovation Village, an area dedicated to innovative startups in the sector, will make its debut, completing an offer made up of exhibition stands and a rich programme of conferences and workshops.

«Piemmeti takes on the management of this event with great responsibility, which, after the success of the last edition, we aim to grow further – says Giovanni Mantovani, President of Piemmeti, recently appointed at the helm of the Veronafiere subsidiary – The petrol station sector is undergoing profound change, and from this perspective the exhibition is not only a business event, but also an opportunity for operators and experts to exchange views on all important topics related to energy, technological innovation and mobility».

«Oil&nonOil is the reference event, unique in Italy, for the operators of a lively and healthy sector," says Raul Barbieri, general director of Piemmeti. "A sector that is not only strategic from the point of view of energy and fuels, but also represents the backbone of mobility services. At the heart of the event will be a focus on the future of the Italian network, which in order to come closer to European standards must become increasingly multi-energy and multi-service retail. But also to fuels with a lower environmental impact, such as LPG, LNG and liquid methane».

The leading sectors

Oil&nonOil hosts operators and exhibitors from all areas related to fuel distribution. These range from the purely «Oil» sector – from plant design and construction to safety, from technical installations to management systems – to «NonOil» – from accessories to car washes, from bars to convenience stores to detergents – via the Storage and transport of fuels and combustibles – from vehicles and tanks to pipes, valves and pumps – through to Alternative fuels – including biodiesel, natural gas, LPG, methane, hydrogen, electric mobility and recharging systems.

As anticipated, Oil&nonOil 2022 will give space to conferences and workshops, meeting opportunities for companies, trade associations and experts, but will also have a special focus on the theme of innovation. In fact, the Oil&nonOil Innovation Village will be inaugurated, a dedicated space that will bring together the eight best Italian start-ups operating in the field of sustainability for the fuel distribution network: electronic payments, catering, energy autonomy of service stations, all the nascent technologies that make our refuelling breaks more sustainable – from an economic, social and environmental point of view – will be showcased by young Italian companies.
