Brasil: Scania, Comgás to expand gas filling stations for HDVs in São Paulo

Scania and Comgás are launching a partnership that will expand the number of compressed natural gas (CNG) and biomethane filling stations for heavy commercial vehicles in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, report Brazilian media.
The project will start off by mapping relevant corridors and logistics routes for the deployment of the filling stations. The plan also foresees the evaluation for the installation of natural gas filling facilities in garages for fleet owners and bus operators.
“A bus operator which has a filling station in its garage gains in productivity because it can fill the tanks during non-traffic hours,” said the President and CEO of Scania Latin America, Christopher Podgorski.
Since March 2020, Scania has produced trucks with dedicated gas engines – compatible with CNG, biomethane, or a mixture of both - at the company’s São Bernardo do Campo plant in ABC Paulista, following an investment in the new premises of around R$ 4 billion ($750 million). The manufacturer also launched natural gas powered city and highway buses.
