BYD to roll out EV “flash” charging network in Australia
Automaker plans dealership‑based rollout as Denza brand pushes rapid expansion.
BYD is preparing to build its own ultra‑fast electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Australia, moving ahead with a privately funded rollout as concerns persist over the pace of public charging infrastructure development.
The initiative will be led by Denza, BYD’s premium brand, which plans to begin installing ultra‑fast “flash” chargers within the next few months. The first phase will see three charging sites launched at dealerships in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide from October, with further expansion planned across additional locations.
The strategy is centered on integrating charging infrastructure directly into retail and service locations. Denza expects to have between 20 and 25 dealerships operating nationwide by the end of the year, with the majority equipped with fast‑charging facilities.
Each charging installation is expected to occupy the equivalent of three standard parking bays, accommodating battery storage, overhead charging equipment and vehicle access. The approach is designed to deliver charging speeds closer to the refueling experience familiar to combustion‑engine drivers, addressing one of the key barriers to broader EV adoption.
By taking direct control of charging deployment, BYD aims to support its growing vehicle footprint in Australia while reducing dependence on third‑party infrastructure, positioning charging availability as a core part of its market strategy.
