E.ON Drive Infrastructure (EDRI) Italy has acquired 100% of SMATRICS EnBW Italia, a developer and operator of high-power charging (HPC) infrastructure. The deal adds four operational hubs with a total of 64 ultra-fast charge points in northern Italy. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The largest site, with 20 points, is in Brixen-Vahrn in South Tyrol, on the Brenner corridor. Palmanova, near Udine, offers 12 points on the Alpine-Adriatic corridor. Gruaro, in the Venice area between the A28 and A4 motorways, and Trezzo sull’Adda, near Milan on the A4, have 16 points each. All four sites have high available grid capacity, leaving room for additional charge points and technology upgrades.

Michele De Gaspari, Regional Director Southern Europe at EDRI, said the acquisition “represents a strategic step in the growth journey” of the company in Italy. Integrating the hubs strengthens its presence along some of Europe’s most important transport corridors, he added.

EDRI plans to keep expanding its ultra-fast charging business through acquisitions. The company operates more than 10,000 public charging points across 11 European countries and employs over 200 people.
