Contaminated fuel forces Jamaica to seal 17 gas stations
Seventeen service stations have seen their pumps closed by Jamaica’s authorities due to a case of fuel contamination.
The investigation found that the bad fuel had been sold in at least 26 gas stations, although Government scientists were unable to trace the origin of the contamination, reported the Jamaica Observer.
Professor Winston Davidson, chairman of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) – the agency which is carrying out the tests – said more stations may be found to have contaminated fuel as more tests are finalized this week.
“This is what we were able to do at this time. We can’t force the timing of the tests. Each test has a specific time,” said Davidson.
The islandwide investigation started after numerous motorists complained about the quality of the fuel purchased at gas stations.
