EPA hands $650,000 fine to Hawaiian retailer Aloha Petroleum
Aloha Petroleum has reached a $650,000 settlement with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) after the Hawaiian company committed violations of the Clean Air Act, reported Biz Journals.
The oil and fuel retailing company was penalized for failing to install the appropriate vapour controls at its Hilo East Terminal and secondary spill containments for its oil storage tanks, said the EPA.
Apart from the $650,000 fine, Aloha Petroleum will have to spend a further $3.5 million on spill containment installations at its storage facilities.
A subsidiary of Sunoco LP, the company is one of Hawaii´s largest fuel retailers. It currently operates around 100 gas stations under the Shell, Aloha and Mahalo brands.
