Former Sheetz CEO Stephen G. Sheetz dies at 77
He helped Sheetz introduce the made-to-order concept, entered the fuel business and drove expansion into new states.
Sheetz has announced the death of Stephen G. Sheetz, its former president, chief executive and chairman of the board, at the age of 77. The company confirmed he passed away in a statement, marking the end of a career that spanned more than six decades.
Stephen Sheetz began working part-time for Sheetz Kwik Shopper at just 12 years old, a business founded by his brother in 1952. After graduating from Penn State University in 1969, he rose through the ranks to become supervisor and director of operations, overseeing the company’s four locations at the time. By 1983, Sheetz had helped expand the network to 100 stores and later served as president, CEO and chairman.
During his tenure, Sheetz introduced the made-to-order concept, entered the fuel business and drove expansion into new states. He also championed the company’s “Total Customer Focus” mission, shaping Sheetz into a convenience and fuel retail leader. Even after stepping down from executive roles, he remained actively involved, offering guidance as the company continued to grow.
Today, Sheetz operates hundreds of locations across multiple states, a legacy attributed in part to Stephen Sheetz’s vision and leadership.
