Fortech technology meets Toscana Aeroporti

Fortech’s technology is designed to make transactions fast, reliable and easy to use. In mobility environments, where people are constantly on the move and every interaction matters, technology should simplify the experience rather than add complexity. This means developing solutions that are intuitive for users, efficient for operators and designed to perform reliably across different mobility contexts.

Fortech’s OPTcompact terminals are built around this approach, which is now being explored in a new context through a pilot project with Toscana Aeroporti. The collaboration is an opportunity to experiment with a new application of the technology, bringing the simplicity and autonomy of self-service payments to the airport environment, where passengers can use dedicated OPTcompact terminals to purchase services such as Priority Lane access.

A small touchpoint with a significant impact

Self-service payment may appear to be a relatively small element of the airport experience. In reality, these individual touchpoints can have a considerable impact when they are designed around the user.

These principles shape the collaboration between Fortech and Toscana Aeroporti. As Martina Casati, from the Aviation Sales Department at Toscana Aeroporti, and Mirko Ortolani, Payment Product Manager at Fortech, explain in the project presentation video, the initiative was born from shared objectives around improving the passenger experience by making digital service purchases faster and more intuitive.

The benefit for passengers is immediate. A service can be selected and paid for in just a few steps, helping to reduce waiting and giving travellers greater control over their journey.

THE SMART FACTOR – 12 – Innovation in Airport Services with Toscana Aeroporti

Technology across mobility contexts

One of the most interesting aspects of the project is its cross-sector nature.

Fortech describes the initiative as an exploration of a new application for the OPTcompact terminals, demonstrating how a technology can be adapted to different applications connected to mobility.

This is an increasingly relevant approach as the boundaries between different mobility environments become less rigid.

Service stations, airports, car parks, charging hubs and other mobility locations may have very different operational requirements, but they share a common need: users want services to be available quickly, securely and with minimal friction.

From this perspective, the airport becomes an important new testing ground for technologies developed to support mobility services.

The project between Fortech and Toscana Aeroporti is therefore more than an airport payment application. It is an example of how technologies developed by Fortech for mobility can be extended across sectors, bringing with them a common approach: simplify the journey, make the process more seamless and give users greater autonomy.
