French fuel consumption falls 3% in January 2015
French consumption of vehicle fuel fell 3% in January, with similar declines for both the most common unleaded gasoline and diesel sold, according to the latest statistics released by the Comite Professionnel du Petrole (Professional Oil Committee).
A total of 3.8 million cubic meters of vehicle fuel were delivered in January which was 3% less than the same month a year earlier.
“This evolution results from a 3% decline in deliveries of supercarburant unleaded and a 2.9% in the deliveries of gazole (diesel),” the authority said.
As much as 82% of the total French consumption of fuel for road vehicles during the period was diesel.
The cumulative consumption of vehicle fuel in France between February 2014 and January 2015 was nearly 50 million cubic meters. During this period, gasoline consumption fell 2% from the previous year while that of diesel remained stable. For the full 12-month period, diesel represented 81% of the market.
