In one of Stockholm’s most dynamic waterfront developments, a new kind of marine fueling station is taking shape — one that combines automation, renewable fuels, and cutting-edge safety technology. Swedish fuel infrastructure technology innovator Secfuel has been granted a concession by Stockholms Hamnar AB to establish a patent-pending, unmanned self-service marine fuel station in an area previously considered too sensitive for such infrastructure — the freshwater catchment zone for all of Stockholm.
What makes this possible is not just regulatory alignment, but genuine technical innovation. The site demanded environmental safeguards far beyond the norm, and Secfuel delivered with a patent-pending system for advanced leakage prevention and real-time leakage detection. Purpose-built to meet — and exceed — the toughest marine safety and environmental standards, based on a risk assessment made by DNV, the system enables fully autonomous fueling in areas where conventional fuel stations have never been permitted.
“This is more than just a new fuel station — it’s proof that environmental responsibility and technical innovation can go hand in hand,” says Ove Lidström, newly appointed CEO of Secfuel. “Getting approval for this location is a strong validation of our technology and our mission. We’re showing that marine fueling can be modern, unmanned, and still meet the highest standards of environmental protection.”
Expected to be fully operational in late spring next year, just in time for the boating season, the station will offer both conventional and renewable marine fuel options in multiple separate fuel tanks, making it a practical and future-ready choice for boaters seeking more sustainable alternatives.

Strategically located next to Preem’s land-based fuel station, and adjacent to the new Riddarfjärdens Yacht Club, the Secfuel station will serve a growing marina community in one of Stockholm’s most vibrant and rapidly expanding waterfront districts. With new berths, restaurants, bars, and water-based activities activating the shoreline, demand for clean, convenient, and compliant fueling solutions is rising fast.
