Ghana fights to avoid further petroleum-related explosions
Ghana’s National Petroleum Authority has launched a campaign to help reduce the number of petroleum-related accidents after seven people died in a gas stations explosion last month, reports Modern Ghana.
‘No More Petroleum Fires’ is the new campaign that targets education and reduction of risks around gas stations to avoid future fires and explosions. The campaign was launched to last Tuesday in Accra under the theme ‘People Safety First’.
Hassan Tampuli, CEO of the National Petroleum Authority, told assistants the campaign looked to convince industry professionals to adhere to safety rules when handling fuel products.
“The campaign is also to educate the public on their role in preventing fires at all petroleum installations and other locations in the country,” he added.
There will be a major focus set on LPG refilling plans and logistics companies to ensure they work within the recommended safety measures.
Ghana has suffered two deadly explosions at fuel stations in the past two years. Last month seven people died and 132 were injured after a tanker truck provoked an explosion in a LPG station near Accra.
