India: Government buys 10,000 EVs from Tata Motors
India has made a big bet on electric vehicles by announcing the purchase of 10,000 EVs from Tata Motors Ltd to replace diesel and gasoline cars used by its agencies.
Tata Motors beat Nissan and India’s Mahindra & Mahindra in its bid for the contract. The acquired vehicles will be used to replace old Government cars over the next three to four years, reports Reuters.
This signifies the latest step from India´s government to promote the use of electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions. This summer Modi’s government promoted the use of LNG for long distance trucks as another measure to curb pollution.
“The federal think tank in May laid out a 15-year roadmap for electrifying all new vehicles by 2030 and limiting the registration of petrol and diesel cars,” writes Reuters.
