India sees hike in CNG demand
A growth of approximately 8% has been seen in the average sales of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in India. Alongside the increasing demand for the natural gas is the expanding CNG infrastructure in the country.
Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the sole retailer of CNG in India’s national capital, has built 72 CNG filling stations in four months at government-controlled fuel retailers like Indian Oil Corp (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL), reported the Times of India.
The increasing number of CNG stations as well as vehicles running on CNG has contributed to the rise in demand.
The Supreme Court decision to ban diesel taxis in Delhi and its order to set up 104 CNG filling stations would further spur the growth in CNG consumption.
CNG, moreover, offers the public a cheaper alternative to petroleum (57 percent savings) and diesel (28 percent savings).
