Italy: Fuel retailers in Sicily complain of crime, want reduced costs for electronic payment
The Sicilian branch of the fuel retailer organization Faib Conferscenti is complaining of what appears like an intensification of crime against fuel stations with three incidents only in the most recent week and want authorities not just to improve security but also to lower costs for electronic payment which would reduce cash handling, according to a statement released June 18.
The crime is creating a situation “which continues to expose operators to risk their wellbeing to try to protect the daily sales of which only 2.5% is what will remain to the (fuel retailers) disposal and 70% which will go to the government” in taxes.
The fuel retailers complain that their private attempts to increase security, like adding video cameras, have not produced any result.
The retailers want law enactments that would make it easier for “payments with electronic coins” because reducing the cash handled by fuel stations may “have a positive effect in the direction of improving the levels of security of operators.”
