New EnBW charging hub adds fast chargers and 24/7 store
The new site at Erfurter Kreuz will feature 24 charging points and round-the-clock snack access for EV drivers.
German energy provider EnBW has begun construction on a new ultra-fast charging park in Neudietendorf, near the highway interchange Erfurter Kreuz. The site will feature 24 covered high-power charging (HPC) points, with capacity to expand to 48 chargers, and will include a 24/7 smart store.
The facility is scheduled to open in October 2025 and is part of EnBW’s strategy to enhance the charging experience for electric vehicle (EV) users by offering amenities that meet customer needs. To develop the unmanned store, the company is working with bk World to allow travelers to relax, snack, or even get work done while their vehicle charges.
“We’ve already tested snack shops at our charging sites in Kamen, Chemnitz, and Bispingen, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Volker Rimpler, Chief Technology Officer for E-Mobility at EnBW mobility+. “Grabbing a drink or snack during a charging break is exactly what our customers are asking for. In Neudietendorf, we’re now trialing another concept.”
With charging speeds of up to 400 kW, EV drivers can gain up to 400 kilometers of range in about 15 minutes. A solar canopy generating 55.65 kWp will power parts of the facility, contributing to its sustainability.
Thanks to its strategic location, the Neudietendorf hub is expected to be a key stopover for long-distance travelers in central Germany. Future charging locations are also expected to include similar 24/7 offerings.
The new site follows recent groundbreaking for two other ultra-fast charging parks in Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, as EnBW accelerates the rollout of EV infrastructure in eastern Germany. The company currently operates over 7,000 high-power chargers across the country and aims to grow that number to 20,000 by 2030.
