The deal covers retail service stations, storage terminals and distribution assets, including interests at the TIPER fuel hub, as Oryx refocuses capital on energy infrastructure and trading.

Oryx Energies has signed an agreement to sell its downstream oil business in Tanzania to Amsons Group. The transaction covers retail service stations, storage terminals and distribution infrastructure. It forms part of a strategic review of Oryx’s African downstream assets as the company refocuses capital on energy infrastructure and trading.

The deal also includes equity interests in strategic fuel hub partnerships, among them storage operations at the Tanzania International Petroleum Reserve (TIPER) in Dar es Salaam. Completion is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions, and Oryx will continue operating in Tanzania as usual until then.

Once integrated, the assets are expected to lift Amsons Group’s fuel storage capacity from 300,000 to 800,000 tonnes and expand its retail network to about 300 service stations across several countries.

“Tanzania has been an important part of Oryx Energies’ history, and we are proud of the business we have built,” said Moussa Diao, CEO of Oryx Energies. He added that Amsons Group “is well placed to take the business into its next chapter”.

Amsons Group operates the Camel Oil, Cam Gas, Camel Lubricants and Kalahari Petroleum brands, alongside cement businesses, across Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. Separately, Oryx announced on October 21 the sale of its Tanzanian gas business to ASAS Energies.
