PTT to meet increasing demand for convenience at stations

Southeast Asian energy firm wants to increase its investment in non-oil business, with convenience stores and coffee shops being the major focus.

Auttapol Rerkpiboon, PTT's senior executive vice-president overseeing oil business, said they will propose larger investments in non-oil businesses to the board of directors in November, reports the Bangkok Post.

"The non-oil business has strong potential to grow further," he said. "The growth is higher than our previous expectations."

PTT had planned to open 200 Amazon cafes by 2020, but now feels that number might not be able to meet rising demand across Thailand and neighbouring countries such as Cambodia and Vietnam.

Economic growth and a new generation of people with modern lifestyles open up opportunities for the convenience sector of the gas station business.
