Rolande has launched a combined Bio-LNG and electric vehicle (EV) charging facility in Tilburg, Netherlands, marking the first time both energy solutions are available at a single site in its network. The station, located in Berkel-Enschot, is designed to support heavy-duty transport operators seeking immediate options to reduce CO₂ emissions.

The site integrates four high-power charging points with capacities of up to 375 kW alongside existing Bio-LNG infrastructure, enabling fleets to adopt different low-carbon fuels depending on operational needs. The facility has been built with future growth in mind, with infrastructure already in place to expand to eight charging points.

The development reflects the company’s approach to transport decarbonization, which emphasizes multiple energy pathways rather than a single solution. According to Rolande, factors such as route distance, payload and usage patterns will determine whether electric or Bio-LNG power is more suitable.

Jolon van der Schuit, CEO of Rolande, said: “The decarbonization of heavy transport does not require one solution, but a mix of solutions that work in practice.” He added: “For some applications, electrification is the logical next step, while Bio-LNG already offers a practical and immediately available route to significant CO₂ reduction.”

The Tilburg site is positioned as a model for future infrastructure, combining different energy carriers in one location to give operators flexibility. The initiative also highlights the importance of reliability, availability and total cost of ownership in the transition to lower-emission transport.
