Ryder to use cleanest fuel for its fleets
Trucking and logistics corporation Ryder System Inc. is switching its fuel to Clean Energy Fuels Corp's natural gas brand Redeem at its stations in Orange and Fontana, California, reported lngindustry.com.
Redeem renewable natural gas (RNG) is considered as the cleanest fuel commercially available today. The methane-based fuel will be available at the two stations in both compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) forms to public and individual fleets.
“Our decision to use 100% renewable natural gas is based upon our ongoing commitment to ensuring we are delivering solutions that help our customers reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Scott Perry, vice president of Supply Management and Global Fuel Products, Ryder System, Inc.
Clean Energy claims that Ryder's shift to Redeem will help the company cut its emissions to 6,300 metric tons per year, which would be the equivalent of taking approximately 1,319 cars off of the road per year.
Ryder, being the only transportation company that provides on-site CNG and LNG fuel to the public, has the immense potential to expand the benefits of Redeem to hundreds of fleets, according to Harrison Clay, president of Clean Energy Renewables.
“After launching Redeem as a commercial fuel just two short years ago, Clean Energy is on track to deliver over 40 million gal. this year,” added Clay.
