Shell gas stations around Edmonton continue to run dry
Edmonton Shell stations continue to suffer fuel shortage after the company's Scotford Refinery shut down earlier this month due to “unplanned” maintenance work, reported the Edmonton Journal.
Operators and customers of Shell gas stations across Edmonton are running out of patience after almost three weeks of dry pumps.
“We continue to explore all available options to refill stations that have run out of gasoline,” said Cameron Yost, a spokesman for Shell Canada Ltd. ”We know this is an inconvenience for customers and we appreciate their patience as we diligently work to address these temporary shortages.”
In August last year, Edmonton and Calgary stations also suffered fuel shortages due to operational problems at the Scotford Refinery.
Yost did not explain if Shell planned to compensate independent operators who have seen their revenues slumped by the shortage. He was also unable to say when the refinery would resume normal activity.
“Right now, our focus is on getting fuel to stations that have run out to ensure our customers are getting the product they need,” he said.
According to Shell´s spokesman, the retailing giant is having difficulties to find alternative supply sources due to the increased summer fuel demand around Canada and the U.S.
