Shell to support Amazon's electric truck fleet in Germany
Shell will provide bookable high-power charging for electric trucks operating within Amazon's transportation network, supporting fleet electrification across key logistics corridors in Germany.
Shell has partnered with Amazon to support the charging needs of electric heavy-duty trucks operating within the company's transportation network in Germany, expanding access to high-power charging infrastructure for logistics fleets.
Under the agreement, Shell will make its truck charging hubs in Hannover, Kirchheim and, soon, Koblenz available to Amazon's transportation partners. The sites are equipped with liquid-cooled high-power chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW, designed to meet the operational requirements of heavy-duty electric trucks.
A key feature of the partnership is the use of Shell's "Home-away-from-Home" system, which allows fleet operators to reserve charging slots in advance. The booking functionality is intended to improve route planning, support vehicle uptime and help align charging stops with mandatory driver rest periods.
Access and payment will be managed through the Shell Card, providing fleet operators with a single platform for charging transactions across Shell's growing heavy-duty charging network in Germany. The company currently operates around 150 truck charging points in the country.
“Amazon's use of Shell's high-power truck charging hubs shows how we can help fleet operators electrify heavy-duty transport in a practical way,” said Melanie Falkenstern, Head of Fleet Solutions DACH at Shell. She added that reservation capabilities and integrated payment services help provide greater operational certainty for fleet customers.
The collaboration builds on an existing relationship between the two companies and highlights the growing role of dedicated truck charging infrastructure as logistics operators expand the use of electric vehicles. For Shell, the project also supports its broader strategy of developing charging solutions tailored to commercial transport and fleet customers.
