Shell, Van Kessel sign fueling partnership in the Netherlands
Collaboration targets business customers, low-carbon fuels and accelerated energy transition.
Shell Netherlands and Van Kessel have signed a memorandum of understanding to work towards a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening services for business customers and speeding up the energy transition towards net-zero emissions.
The cooperation is built around an integrated approach that combines Shell’s global experience with Van Kessel’s local market knowledge, infrastructure and customer relationships. The two companies plan to collaborate in three main areas: fuel supply to business customers, combined fuel and charging card solutions, and the expansion and optimization of a nationwide network of fuel and electric vehicle (EV) charging locations.
“With this collaboration we gain access to Shell’s global expertise, integrated energy solutions, trading insights, technical know-how and innovation capabilities,” said Joan van Kessel, Managing Director of Van Kessel. “This allows us to expand our offering and accelerate our sustainable growth.”
Van Kessel currently operates more than 40 service stations in the Netherlands, runs a fleet of 26 fuel trucks, and develops Greenpoint-branded sustainable energy hubs with fossil-free fuels, EV charging plazas and hydrogen stations to support business fleets on their path to zero-emission mobility.
Sandra Geilings, who leads Shell’s business mobility activities in the Benelux and France, highlighted the complementary strengths: “Together we can do more for business customers in mobility, energy supply and fleet management in the Netherlands, and respond more flexibly to the challenges on the road to net-zero emissions.”
The partnership will focus in particular on lower CO₂ and methane fuels such as (bio-)LNG and renewable diesel (HVO100 / Shell Renewable Diesel), as well as further electrification, potentially complemented by hydrogen as an energy carrier. The companies also aim to simplify daily operations for corporate clients through a combined Shell Card for both refueling and charging.
