SK Energy opens Korea's first hydrogen station for heavy duty trucks
The company has opened the site in the city of Ulsan and plans to expand the supply of hydrogen vehicles across the city as well as establish more stations in the near future.
SK Energy has become the first Korean company to operate a hydrogen filling station for heavy duty hydrogen trucks.
As diesel-powered heavy duty vehicles in the country have been slow to convert to electric vehicles, the new station was built to further the transition as it has been established in the city of Ulsan, where truck traffic is frequent. SK will operate the site until 2046.
The station’s charging scale is 80 kg per hour, and it is possible to charge 40 large trucks a day and 16 hydrogen cars per hour. The company aims to start official commercial operation on the 14th of April after holding an event to charge 10 units a day for free until the 13th.
"The supply of hydrogen vehicles is the core of eco-friendly transportation without carbon emissions, and it is important to prepare a suitable charging base. It will contribute to improving the supply conditions for hydrogen vehicles, including smooth charging,” said Jang Ho-joon, Head of SK Energy S&P Promotion.
The company celebrated the inauguration last week with an event that gathered approximately 80 representatives from the firm and government officials. SK Energy seeks to expand its hydrogen filling business for truck customers as it speeds up the transition to an eco-friendly energy platform operator.
