Spanish antitrust authority fines BP Oil Espana over “very serious” lack of compliance
The Spanish antitrust authority fined BP Oil Espana for what it said was a “very serious” lack of compliance to an order it had issued back in 2009 and imposed a fine of 750,000 euros.
“The sanctioned company did not eliminate in certain service stations contract clauses that are restrictive of competition,” the authority said.
Spanish authorities said that no company can suggest prices to fuel retailers and there were some clauses in the contracts that BP had with its fuel station network owners that should have been removed but were not.
BP was supposed to eliminate such clauses in contracts with independent retailers following a mandate from 2009 but it did not comply, authority said.
Suggesting prices is a violation of Spanish and European Union laws, the statement said.
