Taiwan to phase out petrol vehicles, rolls out over 3,300 e-scooter charging stations
Taiwan targets to set up more than 3,300 battery charging and swapping stations for electric scooters over the next five years in line with its plan to phase out gasoline-powered vehicles and curb air pollution. The country wants to ban sales of non-electric motorcycles by 2035 and petrol vehicles by 2040, reports Taiwan News.
Subsidies are being offered by the Taiwanese government to businesses to facilitate establishment of the e-scooter charging stations. One of them is the state-owned petrochemical firm CPC Corporation, which will receive funding to install 1,000 charging stations mostly at their gas stations.
In addition, the Industrial Development Bureau under the Ministry of Economic Affairs also wants these facilities to be more accessible to the public and ensures they will be available as well in Taiwan’s rural areas and islands.
To further encourage public adoption of e-scooters, rebates are also offered for purchases along with possible special parking spot and waived tolls to national parks.
