Tesla Superchargers head to Korea’s Expressway rest areas
Tesla was selected for the Korea Expressway Corporation’s 2026 rest-area charging program, adding to a network of more than 1,200 Supercharger stalls at 180 Korean locations.
Tesla will open Supercharger stations at highway rest areas in South Korea after being selected as a charging operator in the Korea Expressway Corporation’s 2026 program. Tesla Korea announced the plan, saying its Superchargers are “scheduled to open at rest areas covered by the 2026 Korea Expressway Corporation project.”
Construction is either already underway or planned at six locations in Cheongyang, Buyeo Baekje, Gunsan and DeokYusan, as reported by Basenor. Tesla said the new stations will fill gaps in its highway coverage more densely.
The Korea Expressway Corporation, a state-run company that operates most of the country’s toll highways and their service areas, is working with several operators to add charging at rest stops. At the end of September, Water, the charging network run by Bright Energy Partners, opened the country’s first 400 kW rest-area station in Cheongju as part of the corporation’s charging expansion program. Water plans to install 123 chargers across 23 rest areas.
Tesla already runs more than 1,200 Supercharger stalls at 180 locations in South Korea.
