USA: Stewart’s Shops showcases “green initiatives” for St. Patrick’s Day
In line with this week’s festivities, the company has highlighted the state of several sustainable projects that have been carried out throughout its history.
Stewart’s Shops has highlighted several of its “green initiatives” to celebrate this year’s St. Patrick’s Day. Some of them include solar panels for powering several of its locations, usage of hydroelectricity, recycling strategies and its reusable products.
The company’s plant is equipped with over 2,400 individual solar panels on the roof to supply 75% of the power to 50 locations and two offsite forecourts. As the firm stated in its official website, the solar power generated is equivalent to taking 80 cars off the road each year.
10 of Stewart’s Shops’ in Vermont use hydroelectricity to offset their energy usage. All of the retailer’s locations are also equipped with LED lighting to improve energy efficiency.
In addition, over 6 tons of cardboard are recycled by the firm everyday, which translates to over 4.5 million pounds of cardboard, office paper, plastic, metal, and light bulbs recycled. This is also part of its reusable strategy, which involves not only using reusable material to ship products but to reward customers as well. At all Stewart’s Shops, customers get a discount on their coffee when they use any refillable mug.
On the other hand, the company has signed a partnership with EVolve NY to expand its EV charging network across its retail sites. Stewart’s Shops plans to have more than 82 EV charging stations at 16 of its shops by the end of 2022.
