AVIA has formed a new research and technology partnership with Vision AI company Score to support the transition toward fully automated petrol stations across its network. The initiative focuses on using real-time computer vision to detect operational issues instantly, improving uptime and safety at unmanned sites.

As fuel retailers across Europe increase automation, the challenge is ensuring stations remain operational without on-site staff. Through the partnership, AVIA will begin deploying Score’s AI systems, which analyse live camera feeds to identify issues such as malfunctioning pumps, broken payment terminals, jammed or leaking nozzles, and blocked bays. Detected incidents trigger immediate alerts to remote operators, replacing slower customer reports and manual video reviews.

AVIA’s Network Manager Guillaume Boussaroque said the shift to automation requires more than machinery upgrades. “Automation in fuel retail is advancing rapidly, but true autonomy requires intelligence. Working with Score allows us to add real-time awareness to our network, helping every station stay safe, operational, and responsive without human delay,” said Boussaroque.

The project aims to create a scalable model that can be applied across the chain’s network and potentially to thousands of stations worldwide. By developing a generic Vision AI system capable of monitoring diverse layouts and equipment, the companies hope to set a new operational standard for self-service fuel stations.

The partnership marks a significant move toward next-generation automated station management, combining AVIA’s operational infrastructure with Score’s computer vision technology.
