Brazil’s ANP finds pump fraud, faulty equipment in inspection in Cuiaba, Varzea regions
Brazilian fuel regulator ANP, Portuguese language acronym for National Petroleum Agency, said in a statement issued June 25 that it detected during inspections carried out in June 22-25 in the regions of Cuiaba and Varzea Grande problems in service stations ranging from pumps dispensing fewer fuel than what was sold to faulty equipment.
ANP officials, along with other government authorities including those controlling food items, inspected service stations and their convenience stores which resulted in the confiscation of goods and closings of pumps.
Brazilian officials detected goods being offered in stores despite having a past expiration date. They also found 12, out of 80 pumps inspected, which were dispensing fewer fuel that what was recorded which is an illegal practiced known as “low pumping”.
In one case there was no information on the pump identifying the origin of the fuel, the officials said.
In total, 32 service stations, one fuel distributor and a reseller of LPG canisters were inspected by the officials, according to the report.
The ANP has put in place a telephone number where it accepts tips from consumers regarding which stations to inspect.
