Italian two-day fuel retailers strike enjoyed 80% support: organizer
Antonino Lucchesi, president of Italy’s FAIB (Federazione Autonoma Italiana Benzinai) which is an organization of fuel retailers, said that the recently organized strike in late March early April enjoyed 80% support of members.
It was not possible for Petrolplaza to independently confirm that level of support.
The support was “an evident symptom of the discontent of road operators and of solidarity” with 6,000 workers whose livelihood depends on the industry, he said.
One big problem is caused by “scandalous royalties” in the industry which the government allows, he added.
The Italian government should intervene to regulate the royalties, he added.
The strike for March 31-April 1 was the second this year organized by groups including Faib, Fegica and Anisa aimed at putting pressure on government to discuss some key issues affecting the industry profitability.
Italian official statistics show the industry has seen contractions in recent years.
