Q1 Energie AG is expanding into private-label convenience products, introducing a Q1-branded energy drink alongside still and medium mineral water under its own name for sale in its forecourt shops.

"Private labels sharpen our brand identity at the point of sale while giving us more flexibility on pricing and margin," said Markus Micke, Head of Convenience Retail at Q1.

"With the energy drink and the two mineral water variants, we're laying the foundation for a convenience product range under our own brand."

The move is not entirely new territory for the company. Q1 has long sold private-label lubricants, including motor oils and specialty care products, so the group is now extending an established approach into beverages.

Private labels have become an increasingly strategic tool across food and convenience retail, no longer seen merely as budget or secondary options. Retailers use them to reduce dependence on manufacturer pricing, manage margins more directly, and build a recognizable brand experience at the point of sale.

For fuel retailers in particular, where impulse purchases and quick decisions drive much of convenience sales, a consistent private-label range offers a way to stand out from competitors while giving operators a more predictable cost structure.
