SpeedIQ: the efficiency case for every dispenser

A dispenser motor that runs only as hard as the fill in front of it. Gilbarco Veeder-Root's SpeedIQ turns the quietest part of the forecourt into the fastest payback.
Every forecourt has a cost line that nobody looks at: the motors inside the dispensers. Traditional dispenser motors run at one speed, whether the nozzle is delivering a few litres into a scooter or filling a 60-litre tank. The energy is spent either way, and so is the noise.
SpeedIQ changes the equation. It is a first-to-market intelligent dispenser motor that reads the flow the customer actually needs and adjusts its speed in real time to match it. When demand is low, the motor slows. When a fill calls for full flow, it delivers it. The result is a dispenser that uses only the power it needs, at every transaction, on every hose.
What that means on the forecourt
The numbers behind SpeedIQ are simple enough to put on a business case. According to Gilbarco Veeder-Root, the motor can reduce dispenser energy use by up to 50 per cent compared with a conventional motor, which translates into a saving of up to 100 kg of CO2 per dispenser per year. Multiplied across a network, that is a measurable line in an ESG report as well as a measurable line in the electricity bill.
The second benefit is one customers notice before operators do. SpeedIQ cuts dispenser operating noise by up to 50 per cent, which makes the fuelling position noticeably quieter. On a busy site, or on a forecourt with housing nearby, a quieter pump is a better neighbour and a better place to stand for the two minutes a fill takes.
"By matching motor speed to real-time fuelling demand, this first-to-market innovation helps operators reduce energy use, lower noise and improve operating efficiency," says Stephen Richards, Chief Commercial Officer for Convenience Retail at Vontier, Gilbarco Veeder-Root's parent company. Installed across multiple sites, he adds, the motor "can save operators thousands in both kilowatt hours and overhead costs".
Built into the dispensers retailers already know
SpeedIQ is available on the SK700-II dispenser range [GVR to confirm the full list of models and regions, and whether a retrofit option applies], so the efficiency gain arrives with the dispenser platform retailers already specify for petrol, diesel, AdBlue, LPG and HVO. It was demonstrated on the updated SK700 at UNITI expo 2026 in Stuttgart, where it sat alongside the rest of the multi-energy hub portfolio.
That context matters. Fuel retailers are being asked to add charging, expand the store and cut emissions at the same time. Most of those investments are visible. SpeedIQ is the quiet one: a component-level upgrade that lowers the running cost of the core business while the rest of the site evolves around it.
The payback question
For a network operator the question is not whether a dispenser should waste less energy, but how quickly the saving pays for the upgrade. Gilbarco Veeder-Root can model that per site, using real throughput data, local electricity prices and the number of fuelling positions [GVR to confirm the calculator or advisory service to reference, and the contact route].
