UAE: Two 5-star hotels in Dubai offer EV chargers
Electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been installed at the Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort on Palm Jumeirah and at the Movenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate, two of the five-star hotels in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) owned by Seven Tides International.
The EV stations can simultaneously charge two cars, with a full battery requiring four to six hours to charge. Once charged, vehicles can travel anywhere between 120 to 400 kilometres before needing to be recharged, reported tradearabia.com.
“Seven Tides is fully committed to supporting next generation initiatives and the sustainability of the planet as well as other ground-breaking programmes, and our hospitality portfolio is a great channel for spreading awareness amongst residents and visitors to the city,” said Abdullah bin Sulayem, CEO, Seven Tides International.
The Dubai-based holding company has also installed LED lights in its two buildings and ventured into developing solar power systems and using building waste as fertilizer.
The EV charger project is the outcome of Seven Tides’ partnership with Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa). It is also part of Dewa’s Electric Vehicle Initiative, which aims to cut down UAE’s carbon footprint and augment the use of renewable energy.
Dewa has already installed 12 stations at its customer service centers and plans to install 100 charging stations by the end of 2015 with the collaboration of key stakeholders including Dubai Airports, Dubai Municipality, the Roads & Transport Authority, as well as gas stations, malls, hotels, and car park operators.
