The convenience retailer has introduced a new checkout system combining AI-assisted product recognition and automated cash handling to speed up transactions and reduce wait times.

HOP Shops has rolled out a new checkout solution across its convenience stores, combining AI-assisted product recognition with automated cash management technology as part of its ongoing investment in customer experience and store efficiency.

By introducing Mashgin AI-assisted checkout integrated with Glory’s cash automation technology, the new system allows customers to complete purchases in seconds whether paying by card or cash. Shoppers place their items on a checkout tray, where computer vision technology identifies multiple products simultaneously without requiring individual barcode scans. Cash transactions are then processed through an integrated automated payment system.

According to the retailer, the technology provided by is designed to reduce queues, improve transaction speed and simplify the checkout process while maintaining the level of customer service associated with its stores.

The company said the implementation enables store employees to spend less time processing transactions and more time assisting customers in other areas of the store. Automated cash handling also helps improve accuracy, security and cash management processes for staff.
