Konect: EV charging built for fuel retailers

Drivers avoid chargers they do not trust. Gilbarco Veeder-Root's Konect platform makes charging as familiar as fuelling: one payment, one loyalty programme, one operator view, from the dispenser to the store.

Fuel retailers did not build their businesses around apps. They built them around a forecourt that works the same way for every customer, every time. EV charging arrived with the opposite habit: separate hardware, separate payment flows, separate vendors and a driver experience that changes from site to site.

That fragmentation has a cost, and drivers are voting with their tyres. Konect's 2025 Driver Survey found that nearly one in three EV drivers avoids sites with unreliable or confusing chargers. A charger that sits unused because the payment failed, or because the app did not load, is not an asset. It is a parking space with a capital cost.

Charging that behaves like the rest of the forecourt

Konect is Gilbarco Veeder-Root's end-to-end EV charging ecosystem designed specifically for fuel retailers. Its newest platform, the Konect 400 kW All-in-One EV Charger launched in December 2025, is the first ultra-fast charger purpose-built for fuel and convenience retail. The speed matters, but the design principle matters more: the charger is integrated with the same payment and software systems retailers already run on the forecourt.

In practice that means four things. Consistency: integrated hardware and software deliver a single payment and loyalty experience at the point of charge, the same one the customer meets at the pump and in the store. Day-one integration: APIs and deployment tools reduce the complexity of pilots and commercial roll-outs. Driver confidence: ultra-fast 400 kW charging paired with Konect's Uptime Assurance service, which carries a 98 per cent uptime target. And simpler operations: one vendor relationship instead of several.

"EV charging becomes complicated when applications, payment systems and vendors differ from traditional fueling operations," says Merrick Glass, President of Konect at Gilbarco Veeder-Root. "Power is only part of the story. The Konect platform is designed to fit your business and preferred charging hardware, not the other way around."

The FlexPay 6 connection

The link to the rest of the site is the payment layer. Konect integrates Invenco's FlexPay 6 payment platform into the charging technology, so the customer sees the same interface and the retailer sees the same transaction data whether the energy sold is diesel, petrol or electrons. Charging can be tied to the store loyalty programme, which is where the commercial case for a forecourt charger is ultimately won: the customer who charges for twenty minutes is a customer with twenty minutes to spend inside.

A multi-energy hub, not a bolt-on

At UNITI expo 2026, Gilbarco Veeder-Root presented Konect as part of an integrated portfolio spanning fuelling systems, payment and connectivity, car wash automation and charging management. Dennis Larsson, General Manager for Store Retail and Automation, put the principle plainly: connecting forecourt and convenience store "is not nice to have these days, it's a must have".

For retailers planning their first chargers, or replacing a first generation that never quite worked, the question Konect answers is the practical one: how do I add charging without adding a second business?
